Student Academic Grievance Procedures and Code of Conduct

University of Hawaii records directly relating to a student, including student disciplinary records, are “education records” under the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (“FERPA”), and subject to FERPA’s restrictions on disclosure without the consent of the student. State and county agencies need not comply with UIPA requirements when compliance would be contrary to federal restrictions concerning the disclosure of information. Therefore, the University of Hawai‘i is not required to disclose the University of Hawai‘i’s Student Code of Conduct or Academic Grievance Procedure records which directly relate to a student connected with those proceedings.
