Lobbyists’ Electronically Stored Addresses
Electronically stored addresses of lobbyists who have filed registration statements with the State Ethics Commission must be made available for public inspection and copying. The OIP reached this conclusion despite the fact that the Commission is directed to publish annually a list of registered lobbyists, and State law provides that this publication shall not include the addresses of those lobbyists. Because under a different Commission statute the registration statements of lobbyists are specifically designated public records, and because each lobbyist’s registration statement includes the lobbyist’s address, the OIP found that no UIPA exception would protect the electronically stored addresses of registered lobbyists from disclosure.
