Hawaii’s Office of Information Practices (OIP) has revised its basic training that provides detailed instructions on how to use the UIPA Record Request Log and it now incorporates the new FY 2017 Log and Checklist procedures. The “UIPA Record Request Log Basic Training” (June 2016) is a power point presentation with an audio narration that is approximately one hour and 45 minutes long and has been posted on the Log training page at https://oip.hawaii.gov/laws-rules-opinions/uipa/uipa-record-request-log/. A full written transcript and other training materials for the Log Basic Training are also posted online.
Basic training on the UIPA law itself can be found on OIP’s Training page at https://oip.hawaii.gov/training/, where you will find the law, administrative rules, a training video, the UIPA Guide, Quick Reviews, and other training materials.
For people who already know the UIPA and how to use the Log, OIP provided earlier this month Update training on the FY 2017 Log and Checklist procedures. The hour-long power point presentation for the “UIPA Record Request Log 2016 Update,” along with the FY 2017 Log form, the 2016 Checklist, and other training materials, are posted on OIP’s Training page at https://oip.hawaii.gov/laws-rules-opinions/uipa/uipa-record-request-log/. Remember, starting this year, agencies do not have to post their summaries onto data.hawaii.gov, because OIP will do it for them.
Each agency should be prepared to complete its year-end Logs for FY 2016 and submit the FY 2016 Log and the Checklist to OIP, through their department’s UIPA Coordinator, by July 31, 2016. Also, each agency should start a new Log for FY 2017 for requests received from July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017.
