MAHALO LOG COORDINATORS!

Posted on Sep 4, 2015 in Featured, What's New

The state Office of Information Practices (OIP) extends a hearty MAHALO to all agencies and UIPA Log Coordinators who posted their year-end summaries for FY 2015 to the Master UIPA Record Request Log at data.hawaii.gov!  As of today, there are 228 agency entries posted onto the Master Log from the Governor’s and Lt. Governor’s offices; all 17 state departments; the Judiciary; the UH, OHA, OMPO; and all counties, except the Maui county departments.  The Legislature and its agencies have just begun using the Log this year, so their results will be included in the semiannual and year-end Master Logs for FY 2016.

OIP’s preliminary review of the year-end Logs indicate that except for fee waivers, there seem to be less data entry problems that needed correction this year.  Some of the problems appear to have occurred during the process of uploading the summaries to data.hawaii.gov because agencies used a different version of Excel.  Additionally, due to a several minute delay in seeing the summaries published on data.hawaii.gov, duplicate summaries were sometimes posted (and deleted by OIP).  OIP will update its Log Tip Sheet to provide guidance on common problems that we noticed this year.

As we did last year, OIP will analyze the data and prepare a report of the Master UIPA Record Request Year-End Log for FY 2015.  You can see last year’s report for FY 2014 on the Reports page at oip.hawaii.gov.

The Logs are providing important objective data to show how the UIPA is working in Hawaii and help to promote government accountability and transparency.  MAHALO to all the dedicated public servants who are using the Log and complying with Hawaii’s open records law.
